A Community-First Approach to Politics
As an independent, I don’t have a party platform that dictates my policies. My priorities come directly from the people of Fairfax. Politics should be about people first, not parties. I’m standing as an independent to bring fresh ideas, real solutions, and a community-first approach to federal politics. It’s time for a fair go for Fairfax.
Unlike major party MPs who must follow party lines, I’ll be free to evaluate each issue on its own merits—based on what’s best for the people in the electorate and the Sunshine Coast, not what’s dictated by party headquarters. I’m not interested in climbing the political ladder. I’m here to be a strong, independent voice for our community and get things done.
When I speak with locals, and from the Community Listening Report conducted by grassroots group like Fairfax Matters, these are the priorities I hear about most:
Cost of Living
From groceries and energy bills to rent, mortgages, and fuel, families on the Sunshine Coast are feeling the pain. We need real solutions that address both immediate pressures and long-term affordability. That means tackling housing costs, helping small businesses keep their doors open, and taking on the supermarket duopoly that’s ripping off both farmers and customers. It also means scaling up household and community scale solar and battery power systems for cheaper bills and ensuring essential services are there for everyone in our community.
Infrastructure & Services
Our region is growing fast, but our infrastructure hasn't kept up. For 30 years, we have been promised better transport solutions, but the reality is we’re put in the ‘don’t worry about them’ column by both major parties. Being a safe seat hasn’t paid off. Let’s get the services that's been promised for decades, better public transport connections within and between our communities, and essential services that match our population growth. The Sunshine Coast deserves our fair share of infrastructure investment to reduce traffic congestion, secure safer roads, and ensure we don’t lose our quality of life as we grow.
Environment & Natural Heritage
The Sunshine Coast's natural beauty—from our beaches and waterways to our hinterland—isn't just central to our lifestyle and tourism economy; it's part of who we are and needs to be protected for future generations. We have some of the highest uptake of solar in the world and strong local business networks promoting sustainability. We can be the most sustainable, desirable region in Australia. But we need practical leadership on climate change and sustainable planning that preserves our natural heritage while setting our community up to thrive.
Healthcare
The Sunshine Coast is one of the fastest-growing regions in Australia, and healthcare is our biggest employer. It’s time to prioritise a healthcare system that keeps up with our growing population and ensures we have the services and specialists we need. We shouldn’t have to go to Brisbane to see specialists. We shouldn’t have to wait weeks for appointments or ring around only to discover that the local clinics are full. We must support our healthcare professionals, so they don’t burn out in underfunded and under-resourced workplaces. I am advocating for better funding, more local services, and a fairer deal for healthcare workers and their patients.
Small Business & Jobs
Having run our own family business, I know the pressures small businesses face. The tax and reporting burdens, ever-increasing overheads, and risks carried by small businesses can be prohibitive and overwhelming. It is getting harder and harder to succeed, and that brings real consequences for our community.
With a strong advocate and the right policies, we can position our region as a hub for sustainable industries—from renewable energy and cleantech to expanding our healthcare, education, professional, and construction sectors. It’s time to build on our region’s entrepreneurial energy, community spirit, and natural assets to create meaningful career paths that keep our young people here, attract new talent, and enable our existing small businesses to adapt and thrive rather than just survive.
University & TAFE
I know firsthand how challenging it is to pursue education—I studied my law degree as a mature-age student while juggling work, the business, and raising twins. For mature-age students, balancing study, family responsibilities, and earning an income is a stressful time. Younger students face skyrocketing HECS, exorbitant living costs, and an uncertain future. Meanwhile, the decline in apprenticeship numbers on the Coast is creating challenges for construction industries, which are vital to meeting the growing needs for housing and infrastructure in our region. TAFE has to be accessible and affordable for everyone, and we need to ensure the Sunshine Coast remains an education destination that keeps our young people here and creates jobs.
Nuclear
I am open to any rational solution that’s grounded in evidence, because we need affordable, clean energy NOW – not promises that are decades away. The Sunshine Coast is already leading in renewable energy, with some of the highest solar uptake in Australia.
What we do know is things like hydro and battery storage can build on the investments we’ve already made, rather than committing to nuclear projects that even private enterprise won't back.
I also have concerns about the proposition to build a reactor just 87km from Kenilworth—what would this mean for our region? What risks would we be exposed to, and how could we properly plan to mitigate them?
Politics Done Differently
I am not here to play party politics—I am here to represent you. As an independent, I will listen, act, and always put our community first.
If you want a representative who works for you, not the big parties, let’s make it happen.
